All About Beckett: Age SIX!!!

When did this little guy decide he could grow up? Because I don't remember giving permission. My little Beckett is so amazing. He is my caring, funny, crazy, smart, mischievous, no fear, tender heart of a boy. He can read on a 4th grade level and really works hard to make sure everyone is happy. If you are sick or hurt Beckett will help you in any way he possibly can.

He feels things very deeply which leads to lots of temper tantrums, but he is also quick to forgive and the first to say sorry when he has done something wrong. He idolizes his big brother and adores his little sister. I can not possibly imagine our family without this little stink in it. I love him to pieces and can't wait to see all that he will accomplish in his lifetime.

All About Beckett Age 5!!

I can't believe my baby is five today! I know, I know, I say this every year. But it's true every year. It seems like only yesterday that this little man came home with me. He has forever changed our lives. He is my hellion, get into trouble, stubborn, won't follow directions unless it's his idea, snuggley little boy and I love him to pieces. Happy Birthday Beckett!

September Soccer

Obviously I am a big blog slacker. (Let's blame it on the pregnancy.) So I'm going to play a little catch up.

September was a fun month. The boys were finishing up soccer. And I was anxiously awaiting the end of it. Holden had practice on Mondays and Wednesdays. Beckett had practice on Thursdays. And both of them had a game on Saturday morning. I was on soccer overload. But they love it. Holden is very good and really gets in there. He goes after the ball and isn't afraid to jump in front of other players to steal it. I have loved seeing him progress and get better and better. He is a very athletic kid.

Beckett, on the other hand isn't sure. Tim and I were sure he would start soccer this year and be a star player. He's been watching Holden play for a couple of years and practicing with him in the back yard. But that was definitely not the case. He wouldn't even play the first half of his first game. He just sat on my lap and hid his head in my shoulder. Thankfully, he got over that. But he still doesn't usually know where the ball is. He just kind of runs around with his other team mates and swings his arms around. Although he does enjoy it. And that's really all that matters.

Mutton Bustin'

Every year the rodeo comes to West Jordan. This year, we talked Holden and Beckett into doing mutton bustin'. If you don't know, this is where someone climbs onto a sheep and hangs on for as long as possible while the sheep runs away and tries to get them off. Both boys were really excited to try it and they did great! They were number 2 and 3 in line, which meant they didn't have to wait long for some fun.

Holden got a score of 80 and Beckett a score of 81. The 81 put Beckett in third place and qualified him for the finals on the next night. Holden was extremely upset that he didn't place and wouldn't let us take a picture. And Beckett didn't help with his excitement over his bigger trophy.

So the next night (Saturday) we headed back to the rodeo for Beckett to compete in the mutton bustin' finals. He was insanely excited to try again and to get another trophy. It was raining this night and the field was muddy and beyond filthy. Beckett was number 9 to compete so he had to wait a bit before he could get filthy. But he did get filthy. Although he fell off the sheep super fast this time and immediately started crying. He wasn't hurt or scared. He was mad that he didn't hang on as long as he wanted to. Which means he did not place this night and did not get another trophy. He did, however, get a belt buckle. 

We are so proud of both boys. They did amazing. They tried their hardest, showed no fear, and did something new and a bit scary. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Beckett's First Day of Preschool

My little fatty patty Beckett had his first day of preschool today. I wasn't sad and neither was he. Beckett's cousin Ellie is in his class as well as his friend Matthew. So he was more than happy to head in and have some play time. Not a single tear was shed. I'm super stoked that Ellie is in Beckett's class. That means Becky gets to come on field trips with me. Squee!

Repost: Beckett's Birth Story

This was my fourth time going through labor and delivery, but the two before Beckett were both induced and my first time was 12 years ago so I really wasn't sure what to expect. I started noticing contractions around 5:00 pm and started timing them half an hour or so later. They weren't at all regular so I wasn't sure if it was real labor or not. I continued to time them for another hour or so. I still wasn't sure and called my mom. She told me if it was real I would know. I didn't KNOW so I figured I could wait longer. I called her back about 15 minutes later and told her to come over to get Holden. It felt like it took her FOREVER to get to my house since my contractions were about 3 minutes apart by the time she got here. I'm sure she didn't hurry since I wasn't positive I was in labor when I talked to her.

We left our house about 8:30 to go to the hospital. By this time I was feeling the pain. As soon as we got in a room I told them to page the anesthesiologist. I'm sure the nurses thought I was insane since they hadn't checked me yet or anything. Who needs an epidural as soon as they arrive? They didn't page him, but made me get checked first. When they realized I was already at a 7 they sent him a page. I think I was really lucky I got an epidural at all. He said he was getting ready for a C-section so he hurried to do mine. Had he not hurried I would not have had drugs. And believe me, I need drugs.

Almost as soon as the medicine kicked in it was time to push. I think we estimated I pushed for 15 minutes or so. And at 9:48 pm Beckett Archibald Brunson arrived! It was a really quick labor overall and really freaks me out if we decide to have another child in the future. All in all about 4 1/2 hours. Not too shabby.

More Pics of the Cutest Boys in the World!

We won a photo shoot from Fotofly and had the boys pictures taken. We were their first ever outside photo shoot! I think the boys had fun running around outdoors, but they were definitely sick of pictures at the end. It's a good thing they can be so easily bought by fruit snacks.

Sick Little Boy

Beckett has had a cold for the past few days and a bit of a croupy cough. Nothing too concerning overall, but when he started to have a discharge from his eyes I decided to take him to the doc.

Turns out he has pink eye in both eyes and an ear infection. Poor kid. Honestly, an ear infection didn't even cross my mind because he has been just as happy as normal. He now has antibiotics and eye drops so he should be better in no time. I'm just glad he is a happy little boy. But if you want to send over treats for his mom I'm not going to say no. :)

Holy crap! Where in the world did my little baby go? He has grown into this amazing little boy!! I am amazed and frustrated by him every day. I can't imagine my life without this little hellion child.

Beckett's Blessing

Beckett was blessed on Sunday by his Grandpa Hal. It was so nice to see so many of our family members and friends. Thank you all for coming!! A few of the things he was blessed with were to have a strong body and keen mind, with wisdom and the power of discernment, to obey his parents (we'll see if this one happens), and with a love of the outdoors. It was a very special day for us.
