Happy Birthday Holden!

Six years ago today I was sitting in the hospital waiting to hold my little Holden in my arms for the fist time. Tim and I had tried for so long to get pregnant and then we lost our Quentin. The Fresh Beat Band in Concert

I know I sometimes complain about my blogging "job". It's definitely time consuming and people don't think it's a real job. But there are also some nice perks. Like getting free tickets to go see the Fresh Beat Band! Certainly not my idea of an awesome night, but for Holden it sure is!

Plus, I got to take my bestie (Charity) and Holden's bestie (and sometimes girlfriend), Sofia. That made it so much more fun! The kids were so excited that the Band would be there and not just on the screen like at home. Before the concert started I don't think they believed us.

And while Holden complained that it was too loud and it took him a while to warm up to the whole experience, in the end he had a blast! He was telling everyone he could just how much he had. Which means I had fun too. And it was even better because it was FREE (yes, Corey, FREE).

Dirty Dash Yo!

I don't know what has happened to me, but I just ran my second 5K in less than two months! And it was full of dirty fun. Tim was going to run with me, but his knee just wasn't cooperating. So my best friend Charity and I went it alone. Here are a few pics before the full on on dirtiness began.

It was much harder and dirtier than the previous 5K that I ran. It definitely kicked my butt. But it was so much fun! Even my boys got in on the action by doing the 1 mile Piglet Plunge at the end. Although neither boy really wanted to get dirty. When I put them in the mud pit they both started whining and crying. Silly boys.
And here are the dirty pics. Man, was I dirty. At one point I was up to my chin in mud. Charity and I were laughing so hard we could barely contain ourselves.

And at the very end. Charity and I posing for the camera.

And Piglet Plunge fun. I could not get the boys dirty to save my life. I even threw mud on both of them. They were so mad at me!! Guess we won't sign them up for it again next year.

Seven Stitches for Holden

Four little monkeys jumping on the bed, one fell off and broke his head...

On Saturday we headed to my friend Charity's cabin for a fun weekend. It's about an hour and a half drive from our house and we love going up there. It's rustic enough to make the boys feel like we are camping, but has enough modern conveniences that I can feel like I'm not camping.

We got to the cabin about 3:00 and Holden promptly headed upstairs with Beckett and Charity's girls to jump on the bunk beds. At 3:10 or so Holden came downstairs holding his head as blood trickled down. I took one look and knew we needed to take him to see a doctor. Since we were out in "the wilderness" we had to figure out where to take him. We ended up at the Heber Valley Medical ER.

After about 2 1/2 hours Holden got a total of seven stitches in his forehead. He has two stitches on the inside and five on the outside. The doc had me hold Holden's arms while he gave him a shot to numb the area. Normally I have no problem with blood. But for some reason seeing Holden's deep wound exposed and cleaned out made me get a bit woozy and I had to sit down. Tim was enlisted to take my place. So they had Tim hold Holden's arms while a volunteer held Holden's head so they could sew him up. Turns out, Holden is awesome (who knew, right?)! He didn't need anyone to hold him. He just laid on the table and let the doc stitch him right up with no tears or moving at all. Such a trooper! Both the doctor and the volunteer commented on how well behaved he was. And the doc even said he wished all his patients were this good.

Before. This picture does not do the cut justice. It was pretty deep and nasty.

After. He was mostly just squinting from the light.

We are headed to see Holden's regular doctor today to get the outside stitches removed and glue the wound shut instead so he won't have much of a scar.

I honestly thought we would have to take Beckett to the ER well before Holden. Guess that'll show me.

Beckett's First Day of Preschool

My little fatty patty Beckett had his first day of preschool today. I wasn't sad and neither was he. Beckett's cousin Ellie is in his class as well as his friend Matthew. So he was more than happy to head in and have some play time. Not a single tear was shed. I'm super stoked that Ellie is in Beckett's class. That means Becky gets to come on field trips with me. Squee!

Ellie, Beckett, and Matthew. Aren't they so stinkin' cute?

Kiss Me Dirty Race

I ran the 5K Kiss Me Dirty race last Saturday and it was so fun! It's a 5K race through mud that is only for women. I will definitely be doing it again next year. Tim and I also plan on running the Dirty Dash next month. It's a similar race only it involves both men and women. Although I think it's a 10K. Ack! Can I do a 10K!?

The final result. After army crawling through mud puts, climbing a rope wall, and splashing mud everywhere we were all beyond filthy. Even my ears had mud in them. My knees and elbows are covered in scrapes and bruises from all the rocks that were in the mud I crawled through. But it was totally worth it.

You can see the cute pink color that the wings and tutus started as. And the filthy muddy color we ended up with.
There were photographers stationed throughout the race. The pictures from them should be up within the next few days. I will be sure to post those as well once they are in.

If any of you are interested in running the Dirty Dash with us let me know. We could definitely use more teammates.
